Pick Process Optimization

Which storage location is best for which article? How can picking rates be increased? How can zones for fast-moving items or express stations be intelligently organized? – With ORion-PI® Pick Process Optimization.

ORion-PI® Pick Process Optimization minimizes costs and times caused by the picking of articles. Depending on the target objective it also can consider costs for supply, storage and stock transfers. Pick process optimization thus is especially of interest to those distribution centers which, due to campaigns or season specifics, have a frequently changing assortment. The module calculates the optimal location for each article and storage zone. The computation is based on:

  • Order frequency data
  • Article properties like size or weight
  • Campaign dependant demand fluctuation
  • Recurring order patterns
  • Standardized MTM-times (Methods Time Measurement)
  • Consideration of expenses for storage and stock transfers

ORion-PI® Pick Process Optimization continuously updates the optimization results. As a consequence, picking locations for fast-moving items and the assignment of express stations can be organized at short notice and campaign-dependant in order to maximize the number of fully commissioned orders.

ORion-PI® Pick Process Optimization considers standardized MTM-times – objective times for elementary work movements such as picking, bending or turning. Optimal storage locations thus can be calculated even more precisely. Frequently ordered articles are placed best possible.

The forecast tool ORion-PI® Picktrend allows the realistic forecast of sales figures – based on order data of previous periods. The forecast results are convincing:

  • Balancing of demand fluctuations
  • Early re-organization of storage and staff capacities
  • Significant improvement of delivery service and quality
  • Minimized throughput times
  • Higher productivity in all areas of the warehouse
