The intelligent bundling of incoming
orders to minimize picking routes and throughput times should be in the
focus
of every distribution center. Optimizing order sequences with
ORion-PI®, thus means to
reduce picking costs, to efficiently
employ personnel and to quicken and
balance process orders.
Even though order sequencing strongly
depends on the general logistic conditions such as due dates or
incoming
orders, the control of order sequences still considerably influences
the
effectivity of a distribution center.
The combining of commissioning orders in
multi-stage commissioning processes e.g. can, owing to circumstances,
reduce picking routes by 50%. In this
context also organizational conditions have to be considered. Efforts
for
sorting in the packaging section for example should be taken into
account as
they might rise when orders are combined in certain ways.
Often conveyor instruments such as
overhead or belt conveyor systems are involved in the sorting process
as well.
Typically, the respective putting is a dynamic process that can be very
unevenly worked. Intelligent order sequencing allows the timed
balancing of
loads which yields significantly reduced
error rates and peak loads and hence allows higher average
load.
ORion-PI® Order Sequencing
can also
calculate the optimal distribution of orders from stocks which are held
in
different distribution centers. Here the idea is to minimize split
sending,
that is, the sending of articles which are commissioned in different
distribution centers. Transports between the locations are reduced,
stocks
evenly decreased. Mailing expenses are minimized.
ORion-PI®Batch Optimization allows the optimal
design of order sequences in multi-stage commissioning
processes. An
intelligent grouping of orders in batchesis an important step in
the optimization of intra-logistic commissioning processes.
By optimizing commissioning orders the efficiency of all working
processes can
be increased significantly.
ORion-PI®Batch
Optimization
makes sure that each picking bin passes through a minimal number of
storage
zones and reaches a high fill level. Based on item properties, storage
layout
and ordering structure
ORion-PI® calculates the
optimal
sequencing of order positions before the picking process starts and –
in so
doing – allows even and efficient commissioning processes.
Batch optimization – as part of the order control – holds remarkable
potential
in most distribution centers. Why? – Every single process within a
warehouse is
a continuously repeated part of an overall working process. While the
effect on
the single commissioning process is small the overall result improves
significantly. Single commissioning processes are strongly
interdependent due
to the warehouse organization structure and the combination of customer
orders.
Exactly this is where
ORion-PI®Batch
Optimization
applies.
Furthermore, the optimization of order batches directly effects
throughput
times, picking rates and delivery service.
