“Golden Cartons“

Not every order has to pass through the picking area. Often it is worthwhile to transport entire packaging units directly from the high rack to the packing area. This makes especially sense when an order sequence consists of at least as many articles as the packaging unit.

ORion-PI^® enables the direct delivery of entire packaging units – the so-called “Golden Cartons” – from the replenishment storage to the sorter. The benefits of such a supply strategy are manifold:

• Minimization of manual replenishment
• Reduction of commissioning effort
• Release of human resources and plant capacities
• Higher throughput while keeping costs constant

ORion-PI^® considers the potential for “Golden Cartons” already in the generation of the series or batches. When a series contains as many articles as the packaging unit, the flow of goods is rerouted: The packaging unit is transported directly to the sorter, bypassing the commissioning area and the conveyors.

Customer scenarios show that the replenishment of entire packaging units from the high rack storage areas to the sorter reduces the commissioning effort by up to 20%.
