Projects
Axxom claims technology leadership with respect to the optimization of business processes. For this reason we – and our partners – have been engaged for many years in various national and international research projects. The further development of our optimization software ORion-PI® is closely connected with these research activities.
ORion-PI® – the beginnings In the early 1990s scientists concentrated on the mathematic modeling of company-specific restrictions in the generation of production plans – among them Dr. Christoph Plapp, former CEO of Axxom Software AG. The back then developed combinatorial algorithms provided the base for the planning and optimization software ORion-PI®.
Innovative
algorithms in supply chain optimization
For
the optimization of complex supply chains the forecast on uncertain future data
– such as market trends or raw material prices – is getting more and more
important. For example, volatile sales figures can have a big impact on
inventory management. Axxom therefore analyzes the influence of fluctuating
factors on production and distribution networks within the research project Innovative
algorithms in supply chain optimization, starting in January 2008. Together with Henkel Corporation and
the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg, Axxom will develop
methods that consider uncertainty factors while calculating optimal supply
chain scenarios. The project is supported by the Bayerische Forschungsstiftung
(Bavarian Research Foundation) and is planned for a two year period.
Innovative planning and optimization tools for the beverage industry Within the research program Information and communication technology
(IuK) of the Bavarian State Government/Germany Axxom Software AG
developed – together with its partner Krones AG – new mathematical
methods that allow the inclusion of industry specific planning
restrictions occuring in production and bottling plants of the beverage
industry. These recently developed algorithms consider periodical
cleaning intervals or help to avoid change-over times during the
weekend.
FAST Together with Technische Universität München/Germany Axxom Software AG started a research project called “New combinatorial algorithms in logistics optimization” in November 2002. As part of the research program Information and communication technology
(IuK) of the Bavarian State Government/Germany Axxom here developed new
mathematical methods for special requirements in the logistics sector.
The algorithms today extend the portfolio of Axxom’s combinatorial
optimization technology.
AMETIST In April 2002 Axxom Software AG was engaged in a research project of the European Union focusing on the modeling of so-called Timed Automata. The results of the research project allow e.g. to better handle malfunction periods in the production.
