13.03.08 - Research project analyzes volatile factors in supply chain optimization

Uncertainty under control

Research project of Axxom, Henkel and the University Erlangen-Nuremberg analyzes volatile factors in supply chain optimization

Munich, 13th March 2008 – From January 1st 2008 on Munich based Axxom Software AG analyzes the influence of fluctuating factors on production and distribution networks within the research project Innovative algorithms in supply chain optimization. Together with Henkel Corporation and the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg, Axxom will develop methods that consider uncertainty factors while calculating optimal supply chain scenarios. The project is supported by the Bayerische Forschungs-stiftung (Bavarian Research Foundation) and is planned for a two year period.

Carolin Haussner, Senior Optimization Analyst at Axxom, specifies the backgrounds of the research project: „For the optimization of complex supply chains the forecast on uncertain future data – such as market trends or raw material prices – is getting more and more important. Thus, the objective of the project is the development of mathematical methods that consider volatile factors in supply chain optimization.” With this research initiative, Axxom aims for a practical modelling of production and logistics networks. After the development of the Cost Scaling Algorithm for the optimization of large supply chain scenarios, Axxom fulfils its pioneering role as a connector of science and industry.
