Munich, May 15th 2006 - Contract manufacturer Sofarimex, a joint venture of the Laboratórios Azevedos and Sanofi Aventis, banks its production planning in Cacém near Lisbon from now on on the optimization software ORion-PI®. The comprehensive solution of Munich based Axxom Software AG will replace the previous solution and is part of a complete reorganization of the Portuguese location until 2007. Special attention of the planning and optimization project lies on the reduction of the over-all production costs, on a decrease of the planning efforts and a significant increase of the delivery service. Sofarimex, Indústria Química e Farmacêutica Lda., is the leading Portu-guese contract manufacturer specializing in the production of pharma-ceutical products for the European market. At the Cacém site near Lis-bon the company realizes complex production processes to produce medications for well-known customers such as Sanofi Aventis, GSK or Novartis - be it solids, liquids, pastes or freeze dried products. Manuel João Oliveira, Operations Director at Sofarimex in Cacém: "The intro-duction of the planning solution ORion-PI® is part of a comprehensive, corporate re-structuring. We expect the software to lead to an apprecia-ble improvement of our production planning, especially with respect to the productivity and the delivery service of the site. Moreover, we count on a significant reduction of warehouse stocks, as well as on an in-crease in transparency and flexibility regarding the replacement time of raw materials". Next to a fundamental improvement of the planning effi-ciency on the operative level Sofarimex demands the optimization soft-ware to reduce intra-company fixed costs. Sofarimex plans the production of about 5.000 orders per year at the Cacém site. Apart from the complexity of the manufacturing processes, the planning of the orders is characterized by a multiplicity of country specific packaging units. The planning is received from customers each month with a frozen period of two or three months in harmony with the customers, as well as every other week on the operative level. The pre-vious solution will be entirely replaced by ORion-PI® in June 2006. The anticipated gain in the production's transparency and flexibility is ex-pected to come along with a remarkable increase of Sofarimex's plan-ning efficiency and delivery service.
