20.04.06 - “Googling” in SAP. Axxom Software AG and IXULT AG introduce search engine for SAP

Munich, April 20th 2006 - German planning and optimization specialist Axxom Software AG and IT consultancy IXULT AG have introduced an effective search engine for the SAP environment within the scope of their strategic partnership. HIVE enables the quick processing of large amounts of data, responds queries in best time and accelerates long running SAP reports. Data are generated quick and easily where conventional search functionalities get to their limits. The tool thus is especially relevant to data collection in the context of strategic planning projects.

It is ahead of strategic planning projects that comprehensive basic data are most often required. As these normally are spread across different SAP environments and various corporate systems though a solution such as HIVE can provide immense support in data generation. Carsten Hoymann, CEO of IXULT AG, explains the new solution’s value: “HIVE operates similar to an internet search engine. The system enables companies of all branches to identify and compose all necessary SAP data – in real-time and without any system limitations. This means a great facilitation, especially for strategic planning scenarios as they are simulated with Axxom’s Software ORion-PI®. For here, SAP data often provide the basis of all calculations.” The idea behind HIVE thus was based on the fact that the data volume in the SAP environment in fact does increase constantly, prolonging report runtimes and making them more resource- and cost-intensive. The functionalities within SAP though did not meet these demands.

With HIVE IXULT and Axxom now provide a comprehensive solution for the release-independent and application-spanning data search in SAP. Similar to an internet search engine HIVE enables full-text search as well as qualified search. Furthermore, it supports semantic and phonetic inquiries. Response times are in the range of milliseconds. The output of the results accords with SAP authorisation concepts. First customer projects show that HIVE drastically shortens runtimes of customer specific or standardised reports. Time savings range from 60 to 95 percent.
