18.09.07 - BMW speeds up
Dynamic Center Dingolfiing
optimizes picking performance of spare parts business Munich, September 18th 2007 – Since June 2007 BMW’s Dynamic Center
in Dingolfing/Germany counts on the software ORion-PI® Order Sequencing
to process its spare parts orders. The solution of Munich based Axxom
Software AG allows the optimal bundling of incoming orders to batches and thus
minimizes picking efforts. Since the introduction of the optimization solution the
BMW spare parts center benefits from shorter picking routes, reduced costs and
a more efficient deployment of its workforce.Andrea Moser, Project Manager and Oskar Scheuerer, Process Owner at BMW
in Dingolfing, are happy with the introduction of the software solution: "The
first results since the introduction of ORion-PI® Order Sequencinghave been
absolutely positive. A first analysis of the mid-sized spare parts section of
the Dynamic Center Dingolfing showed that the picking performance per person
has increased by about 10%."To improve the efficiency of the spare parts center in Dingolfing ORion-PI® Order Sequencing bundles incoming orders to batches. Generating
respective picking instructions the software ensures that every picking bin passes
as few storage areas as possible, taking into account specific restrictions such
as express orders or product properties. First results since the introduction of
ORion-PI®show an increase in throughput, a reduction of the
picking routes as well as a more efficient deployment of the workforce.
Reason for the introduction
of the software was an ever growing volume of orders in the Dynamic Center
Dingolfing. A first analysis by Axxom Software revealed optimization potential regarding
the bundling of orders. Due to the introduction of ORion-PI® Order Sequencing in
operative day-to-day business BMW was able to soon realize this optimization
potential.
