Dr. Oetker plans workforce with software of Axxom

Food maker uses ORion-PI® Staff Planning & Scheduling in its frozen foods plant in Wittlich

Munich, 8th May, 2009 – German food maker Dr. Oetker decided to introduce ORion-PI® Staff Planning & Scheduling of Axxom Software AG. The first implementation of the solution will be in a frozen foods plant in Wittlich. Here, staff planning and scheduling for up to 1.000 workers shall be planned with the software of Axxom.


In its plant in Wittlich, Dr. Oetker produces frozen foods like pizza and pizza snacks. Until now, operative staff scheduling has been conducted with the help of a planning table and MS Excel. Matching of required staff on basis of the production plan, creating staff schedules and the automatic data transfer between production planning and control system, Excel and time registration system demands huge efforts. For reducing labor costs due to better planning, improving the ability to react on changes in production plan and for gaining more transparency in planning process, Dr. Oetker decided to implement ORion-PI® Staff Planning & Scheduling of Axxom Software AG.

The solution of Axxom allows a precise calculation of staff demand on basis of dispatched production orders. Therefore, ORion-PI® is able to model work schedules for products and plants inclusive necessary staff qualifications and their pay group. For determination of staff demand, production orders and work schedules are interlinked so that staff plans can be generated automatically by matching actual demands and available personnel resources. With an easy to use GUI, staff plans can be changed interactively at any time. Also, it is possible to analyse and simulate different scenarios to evaluate different possible actions. By this, the decision making process is much more easy for the planner.

Furthermore, ORion-PI® offers numerous different display formats like daily or weekly plans, plans for special employees, tasks and processes or departments and plants. Also, a cost calculation and evaluation of production plans regarding cost per plant and personnel is possible.
